Day 1: Forest birding in Mpanga Forest and Great shoebill experience
Mpanga Forest is located a short drive south of Kampala. This is a protected area and peaceful place to enjoy some of the birds found in Uganda's birding paradise. We start off from Kampala in the early morning with our guide picking you at the hotel. Birding along the way towards Mpanga Forest where we pass swamps a niche for warblers. At Mpanga Forest a birding guide takes you for a walk to discover what this forest has to offer. Possible highlights can be the several species of the notorious bulbuls from the andropadus family tricky to ID, the forest barbets, Chestnut wattle eyes, weynes weaver, yellow billed hornbils, magpie mannikins, green sunbirds, green headed sunbirds, the Great sparrow hawk plus many more have lunch in the peaceful forest and continue birding towards Mabamba swamp for the Rare Shoebill stork, lesser jacana, marsh harriers, African pygmy-goose, whistling ducks if its the right season the blue swallow, blue breasted bee eater plus many more aquatic birds of Uganda.
